Unpacking the role Digital Farmers Markets can play for building resilient local food economies.

This webinar explores the potential of digital platforms to transform local food systems. We will examine the opportunities and constraints of digital farmers markets, featuring insights from OFN Ireland and OFN International. Two case studies will feature: The North Tipperary Online Farmers Market  and the Local Green Box Cavan. Reflections will follow from a farmer-food producer; a rural development agri-food organiser and a co-operatives expert. 

This is a A CODECS Farminar in collaboration with Cultivate and OFN Ireland. CODECS is a Horizon Europe project funded by the EU to help European farmers understand, assess, and adopt digital technologies for sustainable farming and local food systems

The session will explore:

  • Systemic Power & Policy: An analysis of the current agri-food context, how power is distributed, and the role of cooperatives and the national AKIS (Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems).
  • Digital Innovation: A look at how OFN operates in Ireland and examples of how the platform is used globally for diverse community needs.
  • Community Resilience: How digital food hubs can strengthen food security and provide a buffer against supply chain disruptions.
  • Impact Analysis: The environmental, social, and economic costs and benefits of online market models.
  • Producer Readiness: Addressing the practicalities of how farmers, cooperatives and communities can successfully adopt and use these digital platforms.
