Finding Light in a Dark Age:
Reimagining Farming, Food and Community

We’re delighted to welcome Chris Smaje to Ireland this October for two public events in Cork and Dublin.

Chris Smaje is the author of A Small Farm Future and Finding Light in a Dark Age. He has spent the past two decades farming in Somerset, England, after a career as a social scientist at the University of Surrey and Goldsmiths College. Through his writing and farming, Chris explores how small farms, food sovereignty and resilient rural communities can help us navigate an era of ecological, economic and social disruption.

The UCC Cooperative Studies Centre will host Chris’s talk in Cork on Wednesday the 28th, followed by a Dublin event on the evening of Thursday 29th after the Feeding Ourselves Local Food Symposium at Trinity College Dublin. Both sessions offer a chance to explore building resilient local food economies, supporting land workers, and reimagining the ties between farming and community in an uncertain world.
